When is a website not (just) a website?

Many people want a website to showcase their work or to sell stuff, but if you want to really interact with your customers and keep them coming back, build a community or support your club members, your own private social networking site may be just what you need… and it really isn’t as complicated and nor does it need to cost as much as you might think.
Your own online community – like Facebook but better!

Many people want a website to showcase their work or to sell stuff, but if you want to really interact with your customers and keep them coming back, build a community or support your club members, your own private social networking site may be just what you need… and it really isn’t as complicated and nor does it need to cost as much as you might think.

Features might include –

  • Ability to sign up for membership – either paid, free or custom levels for different users
  • Controlling access to different parts of the site dependent on membership level
  • Create groups/forums where you and your members can post and/or discuss specific topics
  • Upload photos and create albums viewable by members only
  • List details of upcoming events and allow sign-up to members and/or other visitors to the site
  • Sell tickets to events

Members can –

  • Post status updates
  • Upload their own photos
  • Send friendship requests and private messages to other members
  • Participate in group discussions
  • Sign up for events and see who else is attending

If you already have your own site, no need to go for a complete re-design (unless you want to) – in most cases, all of the above can be easily attached as an additional feature and designed to fit in with the look/feel of the rest of your site.

Who is it for?

Perhaps you’re a club and would like to be able to accept membership subscriptions online as well as allowing members to connect with each other, upload photos, discuss relevant topics etc.

Perhaps you’re a business that would like a private social network for your staff

Perhaps you’re a pub and would like to promote your events and build more of a community amongst your regulars

Perhaps you run a health business and would like to offer hints and tips to potential clients, but also encourage them to share their own experiences or ask for advice/support from other members

As the saying goes… the possibilities are endless.
