The Client
Nestled in the arches beneath the seaside promenade, close to Brighton’s (in)famous i360 tower, Bailey Contemporary Arts is an art gallery specialising in show-casing the work of emerging local artists as well a carefully curated selection of art from further afield.
The Brief
Bailey Contemporary Arts already had their own website but, as so often happens, over time it had been tweaked and added to by several different people, and had reached a point where both the design and the functionality needed refreshing and updating. They also wanted to incorporate their new logo and add a feature which would allow visitors to search for products by artist, colour, size etc.
The Design
Frederique already had quite a clear idea of how she hoped the front page would look. In order to allow for the fact that much of the artwork sold is in “portrait” format and to showcase it at its best, we did away the standard landscape/full-width design of many websites and divided the main pages into two, with text on one side and a large portrait image on the other.
Another major aspect of this particular project was tidying up the existing data (ie. the product information) in order to ensure that the more sophisticated search feature would work correctly. This was quite a challenge but fortunately I was able to put my database skills to good use and managed to convert everything and move it over to the new website far more quickly than could have been achieved if it had been necessary to re-enter everything manually.
Other features included a blog which also allows the addition of current events & exhibitions which are then automatically displayed on the front page, and a rotating series of images (also on the front page) which helps to keep the site looking fresh and interesting.

Cassie was very easy and professional to work with. She listened to what I wanted and came back with some really good ideas and suggestions for a website that would look and perform the way I wanted. She delivered on time and in budget, and has provided a lot of ongoing support.
I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending her to anyone who needs a professional website or webshop.
